The Studebaker Penny

This coin is our first release from a die set we made from scratch. It’s a proof of concept, not only of our ability to design with this form language, but of our ability to use this space we’ve created alongside our supporters to enrich our offerings and continue to pursue a deeper, more intimate relationship with craft.

When we looked at these coins, we weren’t quite sure what to do with them.  We love them, we see great value in them, but they aren’t a particularly utilitarian object. They won’t adorn your body, hold your keys or open your beer.  They simply exist. We would like them to exist as a symbol, as a token of our commitment to our values.  The purchase of this coin is an endorsement of our mission, and an investment in our growth. We ask you to become shareholders in our efforts, not as a means to financial profit, but to invest in our ability to learn, grow and share.  Being a coin holder will not guarantee you anything but having a really cool (dare we say Lucky) token to keep, or give away if it feels right -- but we will likely hold exclusive promotions, offerings and intel to coin holders in the future. 

“SEMPER DA MAJOREM PROMITIS”, or Always Give More Than You Promise, is a phrase attributed to the Studebaker Wagon shop of the 19th century that would later become a major automobile manufacturer.  Perhaps this is why they went under, but the idea resonates with us as we strive to offer durable goods of lasting value in a world where that is not a given. We're making stuff up, come along!
