Hand Forged by You / Studebaker University
Learn and apply foundational metalsmithing skills in a small group setting at our expansive and historic strip district workshop located in Pittsburgh, PA.
This class is an introduction to direct forging non-ferrous metals, a process that explores the plasticity and malleability of the material. We will manipulate, stretch and transform a length of wire into a cuff of your choosing, covering each step of the process - torches included. No prior experience necessary!

Making my own cuff bracelet was a fantastic experience. They let you do every step of the process to achieve a piece to be proud of. The whole Studebaker team was amazing with explaining the process and helping along the way while being so approachable. You really gain an appreciation for the craft. Highly recommend the class, but support Studebaker Metals any way you can!
Do yourself a favor and sign up. We all need more art in our lives and this class was so much fun. Michael, Shelby, Emma and the rest of the team at Studebaker Metals are beyond kind and so down to earth and helpful in teaching what they have mastered. The class was informative, well paced, and I felt like I learned so much more than I bargained for in the few hours I spent forging a cuff. Everyone there takes pride in the skill and craftsmanship and was so willing to share their time and knowledge to help us all make something lasting. Michael was really gracious with his time showing us all of the historic equipment they've acquired over the years to keep their type of small scale manufacturing alive and well. Can't wait for the next workshop!
I brought my mom to Studebaker U and we had a BLAST!!!! In no particular order: I met the man who designed and forged my favorite pieces, and Mom got a how-it’s-made shop tour worthy of the History Channel. We made cuffs, learned a lot, bought dope t-shirts, and I can’t wait to come back!!
Born in Youngstown (the smaller Steel City), I just have a deep appreciation for everything Studebaker represents.

My daughter and I cherish our matching Studebaker Metals cuffs and we were graced with the opportunity to forge another set of matching cuffs at Studebaker Metals new completely awesome forge in the Strip at Studebaker Metals - Hand Forged by You workshop. What an amazing day! We were greeted on arrival by the workshop cat-in-residence Peter and a staff member (so sorry I don’t remember your name but you were great too!!!)! We spent a relaxing and edifying morning into the afternoon hours slowly working our metals into beautiful creations under the friendly guidance and conversation with the owner and founder Michael. Would highly recommend to all interested. You will not be disappointed. Hoping that they offer another workshop in the future to return to the forge to perhaps craft another heirloom creation that will journey with us for time to come. BTW, my only the concern about the workshop experience was that it was such an enjoyable day at the forge, that I’d be arrested for forgery!!! 😂.
